Book Review- Brunette Ambition

( I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.)

Lea Michele is an American Actress who is best known for her performance as Rachel Berry on the critically acclaimed, Golden Globe-, Grammy-, and SAG-award-winning Fox television series Glee. She has been nominated for an Emmy, a SAG Award, and multiple Golden Globes. She divides her time between New York and Los Angeles.

I am a big fan of the TV show GLEE on Fox, and I love Lea Michelle’s amazing voice, so I was excited to read her book.

I expected a regular autobiography, and was very surprised.

Lea’s Memoir is unlike any I have ever seen. She has tons of photographs, Q&A sections, recipes, instructions, and darn near anything else you could imagine. It is sort of written like a blog or a website or even a very nice scrapbook.

I feel like it really speaks to this young generation. This would be a neat gift for a young budding actress or singer because it is chock full of goodies and advice for living well in the spotlight. It would make a great high school or college graduation gift for someone studying theatre or film.

Book Review- Fire and Smoke

“Barbeque, not just for breakfast anymore.”

This is a quote that originates from Kansas City Barbeque culture and is reprinted by Chris Lilly in his amazing cookbook: Fire and Smoke: A Pitmaster’s Secrets. I think this quote pretty much sums up this book well.

From the Publisher:

Grill like a pro with the expert recipes and tips in Fire and Smoke.

World champion pitmaster Chris Lilly combines the speed of grilling with the smoky flavors of low-and-slow barbecue for great meals any night of the week, no fancy equipment required. Cook trout in a cast-iron skillet nestled right in smoldering coals for a crispy yet tender and flaky finish. Roast chicken halves in a pan on a hot grill, charring the skin while capturing every bit of delicious juice. Infuse delicious smoke flavors into fruits and vegetables, even cocktails and desserts. Fire and Smoke gives you 100 great reasons to fire up your grill or smoker tonight.

Chris Lilly shows that grilling is a dynamic branch of culinary skills and is so much more than hot dogs and hamburgers. His recieps include drinks, sides, main courses and even a grilled lemonade recipe.  This book has a great personal touch, a fresh view on cooking and wonderful photographs.

I got this book for my dad as a Father’s Day surprise and I am completely blown away by it.  First of all, I don’t think there is any cook that couldn’t learn something or be inspired by the amazing recipes in Fire and Smoke. Lilly  even breaks it down to the basics, and includes information about different kinds of heat sources and even different woods that can change your grilling experience. I highly recommend this book.

I was so excited to find e-circle lens and get their sponsorship on this post. is a retail outlet for circle lenses.  Circle lenses are a contact that enlarges and enhances your eyes, which gives them the appearance of being larger, more colorful and more vibrant. They are great for taking amazing pictures, a special event, Halloween, cosplay or just looking fabulous on a night out. has contacts for all these occasions. They are based out of Korea but they ship world-wide.I am really impressed with these lenses. They are very flattering and natural. They are probably the most comfortable circle lenses I have ever worn. I ended up leaving them in for a long time, and forgot I was wearing them. I normally wear contacts, so I have to have a prescription lens to see. The prescription was clear and I didn’t have any trouble seeing in my peripheral vision, like I sometimes do with other circle lenses.

Book Review- I Just Graduated…Now What?

I have read many self-help style books, this one was specifically written to young men and women who are coming into the real world in 2014.  I chose this title to review on a whim and I have to say, I am glad that I did. The author conducted interviews and wrote connecting material between them.

There are some amazing and successful people featured in this book, and I found their words to be very interesting and pleasant experience to read. The writing is streamlined and said with a fresh voice that is relevant to today’s youth.  Some of these stories are quite compelling.

I actually felt like I learned a thing or two which I cannot say always happens when I read.

I felt like Katherine did a great job in getting interviews with quality individuals who can actually give solid advice and even understand firsthand the challenges that young people entering the workforce face in our new world.

Although I found Actress Eva Longoria’s interview to be quite compelling, several narrations stood out to me. These said standouts include Anderson Cooper, Spanx creator-Sara Blakely, TOMS Founder-Blake Mycoskie, Professional Adventurer Bear Gryllis,  Meghan McCain, and Jillian Michaels.  I would recommend this book to lots of people. especially young people still finding their path, and I will pass this book on to others!
